Atlanta’s 2 Chainz has reason to celebrate with his long-awaited Based On A T.R.U. Story album finally on store shelves today (August 14), however, he fell just short of reaching a personal million Twitter follower deadline.
Chainz recently talked about his Twitter presence and wanting to hit the million mark by the time his LP dropped.
“I think you should follow people who have positive energy,” he told CBS Local. “A lot of people follow people who have certain sexy pics or people that do negative stuff. I can’t lie and say I don’t. I guess it’s cool to follow someone who has some teachings, something you can learn from. Maybe some news,” he said. “Follow me, I’m a cool guy. … I don’t have a million followers on Twitter but I plan on having it by the time my album drops.
Last month, fellow Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame promised to drop a new mixtape once he hits a million followers.
“If you ain’t click my follow button #YouAintBoutThatLife,” he tweeted July 12th.

Back in April 2009, Bad Boy Records’ Diddy helped actor Ashton Kutcher become the first person to reach a million followers.
“EMERGENCY,” Diddy wrote April 15th 2009. “The race is close. it’s imperative that a human being and not a news company reaches the 1 million mark first! Follow @Aplusk now…Ashton just neds 2,000 more to reach 1,000,000!! Let’s go people! Add him now!! Ashton reached 1,000,000!!! Congratulations @aplusk!” (Diddy’s Twitter)
Recently, Chainz compared his new LP’s music to NBA star LeBron James‘ 2011-2012 championship season with the Miami Heat.
“Based on a T.R.U. Story can be the soundtrack for maybe what LeBron [James] went through. Being in a situation, thinking you’re gonna be in a situation, striving in that situation, struggling in that situation, having faith like, ‘Let me try this again, but just do it a different way’ … and then getting good results. I feel like it’s a soundtrack for a championship team, a soundtrack for somebody that’s winning or goin’ through ups and downs.
